William and Caroline and the three oldest children arrived in America 16 March 1893.  (Date is inaccurate if Carrie's birth date is correct.  Carrie was a baby who almost died en route to America.)

They were assigned to Chicago Junction (Willard), OH, where William's brother and family were already living.

They lived at the north end of Kautz Street.  The family, with four children, and their house are pictured in Picturesque Huron, a picture book of Huron County houses and public buildings.

In 1896 they were living on Paul Road, where Loretta was born.

They were members of the German Lutheran Church on Pearl Street in New Haven.  All or nearly all of the family members maintained their membership for life in Trinity Lutheran Church in Willard.

In their later years William and Caroline lived in the big yellow house on West Prairie Street in New Haven.

A son (Hiney?) lived near the north end of West Street in New Haven.

Minnie and her husband William Thumma lived in the little red brick house on East Street.  Their children were Norman and Ethel (Vanasdale).  Minnie always signed all letters and cards to family members, "The Bricks".

Carrie married Albert Smith.  They lived just north of the railroad crossing on Peru Center Road, a property that is still in the Smith family.

The Ebinger men were members of the New Haven I.O.O.F.

Will Thumma and Hiney Ebinger were sextons of the New Haven Township cemeteries.

Davis genealogy summary

In researching our genealogy, I hadn't been able to get past our great-grandmother Minnie Almina Davis Billiard (born 1860 Michigan - died 1923 Attica, OH).  I didn't know her parents' names.   I was finally able to find the family in the 1860 census records with some great surprises.  I was able to work back three generations in the census records.  Then I noticed a place to click on www.familysearch.org to get a link to genealogy charts.  A chart had been done going from our great-grandmother back to 1480.

All the family lines that have been traced are from England.

There is a line of knights (Sir) in one of the family lines.

The Arnold line has been traced to 1480.  Don't know if Benedict Arnold comes from that line or not. LOL

We have one Revolutionary War veteran ancestor.

We have a strong history in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire.

The most poignant finding is that our great-grandmother Minnie Almina Davis Billiard's father, Clark Davis, was killed in the Battle of Petersburg in the Civil War.  He was a Union volunteer from Wayne Co., Michigan, who died when our great-grandmother was four year old.  For a picture of his grave in the national cemetery on the Petersburg battlefield, go to www.findagrave.com, and type in Clark Davis and death date of 1864.
