Davis genealogy summary

In researching our genealogy, I hadn't been able to get past our great-grandmother Minnie Almina Davis Billiard (born 1860 Michigan - died 1923 Attica, OH).  I didn't know her parents' names.   I was finally able to find the family in the 1860 census records with some great surprises.  I was able to work back three generations in the census records.  Then I noticed a place to click on www.familysearch.org to get a link to genealogy charts.  A chart had been done going from our great-grandmother back to 1480.

All the family lines that have been traced are from England.

There is a line of knights (Sir) in one of the family lines.

The Arnold line has been traced to 1480.  Don't know if Benedict Arnold comes from that line or not. LOL

We have one Revolutionary War veteran ancestor.

We have a strong history in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire.

The most poignant finding is that our great-grandmother Minnie Almina Davis Billiard's father, Clark Davis, was killed in the Battle of Petersburg in the Civil War.  He was a Union volunteer from Wayne Co., Michigan, who died when our great-grandmother was four year old.  For a picture of his grave in the national cemetery on the Petersburg battlefield, go to www.findagrave.com, and type in Clark Davis and death date of 1864.
